Location and Travel:

PED11 will take place at MahaChulalongkorn Building of Chulalongkorn University. We recommend our guests to stay at Novotel Hotel Bangkok on Siam Square.

Directions:

Bangkok's main airport is the Suvarnabhumi airport, 40 kilometers to the main conference hotel (Novotel Bangkok on Siam Sqaure).

Taxis are the easiest way to get into town. The journey to the main conference hotel (city center) takes about 45 minutes. All of the taxis have digital meters and must run them. The cost of getting from the airport to city centre is about 250-300 Baht. Taxis do not accept credit cards. It is not necessary to tip taxi drivers.

Directions to the Novotel Hotel via train:
Train service into the city runs from 6:00am to midnight.  Board the Airportlink City Line train at Suvarnabhumi Airport.  Ride the train to Phaya Thai station and transfer to the BTS Skytrain.  Ride the BTS Skytrain two stops to the Siam Station and exit though exit number 6.  The Novotel Hotel is a located on Siam Square Soi 6 next to the BTS Skytrain exit.

Tips on Travel

Visa

Foreigners visiting Thailand for business, investment, study, medical treatment, or employment are required to apply for a Thai visa from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General. Foreigners must possess valid passports or similar documents and comply with the regulations contained in the Immigration Act B.E.2522 (1979) and its related provisions.  Be aware that Thai visa requirements change from time to time and a Thai embassy can provide you with the most up to date Thailand visa information.

Electricity

The electric current in Thailand is 220 Volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. Travelers with shavers, tape recorders and other appliances should carry a plug-adapter kit. The better hotels will make available 110 Volt transformers.

Water

Though tap water in Bangkok is technically safe to drink, the plumbing in certain buildings may make water inadvisable to ingest.  Furthermore, travelers' unaccustomed to otherwise harmless bacteria in the water could get upset stomachs from drinking ice that is technically ‘safe' to consume.  Bottled water in Thailand is recommended as it is cheap and ubiquitous and most ice is safe to consume as it is produced with potable water, with cube ice generally safer than crushed ice.

Measurements and Conversions

Thailand uses the metric system and road distances and speed limits are posted in kilometers and kilometers per hour.
