The present study analyzes changes over time in multidimensional poverty in Togo using a counting approach. It focuses on six dimensions (assets, public services, education, health, housing and sanitation, and employment) and find that multidimensional poverty significantly decreased by 21 percentage points in Togo between 2006 and 2015. Women experienced a higher reduction than men. Urban areas experienced a higher reduction compared to rural ones and the poorest regions experienced lower reductions. Health dimension experienced the highest decrease in dimensional deprivation rate. To reduce multidimensional poverty, government should improve the targeting of the poorest regions in implementing poverty alleviation strategies. |
