This study examines the impact of introducing modest tuition fees on perceived instructional quality in a publicly
financed system of higher education. Relying on a difference-in-differences strategy and controlling for additional teaching
financed from collected fees, we find that the introduction of fees has a significant positive impact on faculty evaluations that is robust and amounts to about one third of an evaluation grade.
